Ok everybody, my “Gostoso Remix” EP is about to drop in one week. To warm you up a little for the release with remixes by Edu K, Zombie Disco Squad, Sharkslayer and many other top cats, we´d like to challenge your remixing skills and are initiating another remix contest, this time with Fairtilizer. It´s for “Kid Conga”, one of the main tunes from the “Gostoso EP”, featuring the six year old MC Miltinho. Can you beat Edu K and the other remixers?

ISA GT PRE-CARNIVAL MIX 2009 by Daniel Haaksman

Sly + Robbie are the rhyhtm back bone of Jamaican music and if you consider that they supposedly played on more than 200.000 (yes, that´s two hundred thousand) tracks, from original JA Rockers style recordings with the Mighty Diamonds to the Compass Point studios where they recorded with Tom Tom Club and Grace Jones, it´s evident that rhythm is where Sly + Robbie are playing bass and drums. One of their most exciting solo-works however was the “Stripped Down To The Bone” album on Island Records, released in 1999, produced by Howie B (who was to the 90s what Dave “Switch” Taylor is to the 00s). From this album “Superthruster” was taken, still a sizzling hot tune with a Manga inspired video. Lazer shooting cyborg Jamaicans – err, isnt there a current project that is using similar images?

“Rap Das Armas” final stage: The self-entitled “King Of Mallorca”, German trash-crooner Jürgen Drews (62), has caught on the irresistible melody of Cidinho E Doca´s “Rap Das Armas” and turned it into Germany´s balearic summer hit . “Parapapapapaprika ich fall um” – can it get any worse?
