A while ago I went to thePosition Normal websiteand ordered the Goodly Time LP (buy it! It’s only five quid and it’s wonderful!).Position Normal’s music is difficult to describe, it is as English as a cup of tea and a buttery crumpet, and uses guitar, samples, loops and extracts that recall Britain of a bygone era. It is a sound that is deliberately lo-fi but at the same time very evocative. It is the predecessor of the sound that has been labelled “Hauntalogical” and that the label Ghost box has gone on to develop and explore. Listen to the ASDA mix by Moon Wiring Club at TheWire.co.uk, and you can hear the influence.
I started exchanging some e-mails with the aforementioned Mr. Normal, and he showed a curiosity about our own Man Recordings, Daniel sent him some Schlachthofbronx track parts and below is the result. I like this a lot, it’s someone who is worlds away from the Man universe putting their own stamp of eccentricity on what is already a bonkers Bavarian baile pile up. vivela différence!

Check out this great video which is a promo for Giorgio Moroder from a Casablanca Records promo video cassette. Of course the Casablanca records story is a great story of seventies excess in its finest form, the book, And Party Every day: The Inside Story of Casablanca Records, is a right rivetting read.
Here’s a little video that I put together for El Toro! Hope you guys enjoy it. My 8 year old cousin finds it hilarious.
Oh, and since it was Chinese New Year last week, we at Man Recordings have decided to give away a little present for you all – the fantastic Seiji rmx of El Toro!
Does this man ever sleep? João Brasil is genius – not only is he releasing a daily mashup on his 365blog – now he presents in full his take on the legendary album “Let It Be” by The Beatles and calls it, appropriately, “Let It Baile”.
Man Recordings is proud to present “El Toro!/Pororoca”, the debut single release from Viennese duo DJ Beware and Motorpitch.
After a busy year of bringing out remixes and bootlegs supported by Brodinski, Crookers, Count and Sinden as well as clubbers worldwide; Man Recordings “in house DJ” Beware and partner in crime Motorpitch team up to bring you two sample driven dancefloor cuts guaranteed to make your body rock.
“El Toro!” is an imaginary meeting between a Balkan marching band and a Flamenco dancer in a Bullfighting arena. This dusty sounding, Kick and Tom driven house banger will make your heart pound and feet stomp from the beginning to the end.
“Pororoca” is named after the tidal wave that rushes up the Amazon river, this aptly named track combines the beauty of a Cumbia melody with a big bad bassline and UK funky groove.
On remix duties for this package we have Seiji, Edu K, WILDLIFE! and Zombies for Money.
The EP is released today, buy it on Beatport or Juno Download.

The favelas of Rio continue to be a popular space for projections of urban warfare. “Tropa D´Elite” draw a picture of the favela as a gang-ruled haven of violence , now there´s the video game “Modern Warfare 2″ that portraits the favela as a mere battleground, full of enemies. With an astonishingly realistic simulation of the architectural specialities of a favela, the game leads from the “Asphalto” (the “official” city) into the maze of a favela where the ego-shooter is slaying one armed resident after the other, no further background stories told. “Modern Warfare 2″ is just another example of how violence seems to be the only current which favelas are associated with.

Thanks to everybody who has participated in the “Ayoba” remix contest. We received more than 70 (!) contributions from all over the planet, even pros like Tommie Sunshine from New York and Bonde Do Rôle producer DJ Chernobyl contributed their interpretation of the big Bavarian-South African tune. And from the first listenings we made it will be a tough one to choose the #1.
We are currently in the process of listening and evaluating all sent-in remixes, we´ll announce the winners next week. Until then, stay tuned to the blog – there´s a lot of hotness coming up!!
Today is carneval and we are happy to give away two smashing carnival mixtapes for you to free download.
Mixtape 1 is by Joyce Muniz, one of the cats on the mike at Ku Bo and parallely, one of the few females in the “tropical” DJ circuit that knows her steez. Joyce´s 2010 carneval mixtape brings samba fueled new tropical house from our favourite artists all in the mix. Download it from here:
Mixtape 2 is by Baile Funk Master Sany Pitbull from Rio De Janeiro who has send us his “TwitterFoliaMix2010″ which is actually a pretty amazing blend of baile funk and samba – perfect to blast any carneval party into pieces.
If you happen to be in Berlin this Thursday, come down to WMF where we´ll host #3 in the HEAT-Party series. Our special guest for the night is WILDLIFE!, the man who made the beats for Terry Lynn´s “Kingstonlogic” album and recently banged out some amazing remixes. Start: 11pm, Admission: 6 €
As from catalogue number Man 044, Man Recordings will no longer manufacture vinyl records. It´s a sad decision, but the recent bankruptcy of our distribution agent MDM and the increasingly difficult taks of making a profit from selling records we decided: No more vinyls!
This comes with mixed feelings: I adore vinyl for its sound, it´s cover artwork culture, it´s longevity. There´s no better thing to dig in your own record collection and find a long-forgotton vinyl that still sounds dope today. But nevertheless: Vinyl for dance music is increasingly less wanted, the average of sales figures for a dance music 12″ is nowadays 250-400 copies sold – worlwide. And this is not only concering Man Recordings releases but rumours say that even hyped up labels like Edbanger dont break the 500 vinyl barrier.
When you continously dont sell enough product to break even, you have to switch to a format that is easy to manufacture and distribute: Digital. And finally, let´s face it: No one plays vinyls in clubs anymore, except for disco or minimal DJs. No big sorrows please, vinyl has to go. So we can still continue to put out good music in the future.
Since it´s carnival time Schlachthofbronx deliver some special treat for all the die-hard carnival-pranksters and real drivebyshootingstars: The official Schlachthofbronx Carnival kit. Put on a Bene or Jakob mask and say Hellauuuu!!!
Grab em here as PDF, print em out, put em on and rock any carnival party Schlachthofstyleee boiiiiiii!!
I love this on so many levels. I can’t even begin to try to intellecualize it and tell you why. I’ve watched the video like 5 times already. I want every hook and adlib in the world to be done by Yo-landi Vi$$er. Currently I am only listening to this on youtube and listening to The XX on my ipod (not at the same time of course). Big shout out to Seiji for letting me know about this one.
Schlachthofbronx were on Sinden´s KISS FM show last Wednesday. With my show early December at Sinden, DJ Beware´s show the week after, Schlachthofbronx are now the third Man Recordings artists to be featured on his show within two months, pampam!!
