Spring has sprung, and I want to forget  about the whole boom boom ish for a minute and get into something a bit smoother.  Window Seat is the new single of Erykah’s latest album, “New Amerykah part 2 (Return of the Ankh)”

… and yes Erykah does still look good…

DJ Marky Mix

Great mix by DJ Marky over at tranquera.org. Not less than a decade ago Marky was the biggest  DJ and electronic music export that came out of Brazil, however, in Brazil itself things cooled off for him a bit when other genres  became more fashionable, not least house music – groan. In fact in the first raves I worked in when I arrived in Brazil at the fag end of the nineties, the line-ups were surprisingly diverse, with techno djs being followed by drum and bass djs and so on. Marky always played a great set, really energising the crowd.

We can hear in this mix that he’s still on form and he takes in a variety of genres and also includes the ubiquitious “Hyph mngo” as well as some deep housey thangs (see track list below). In the interview he does to accompany the mix he explains that he now regulary plays with the dubstep crowd.

Exploration #6 – London Pirate Radio

exploration-6-london-pirate-radio

Nice documentary on London pirate radio over at palladiumboots.com.

The blurb sez:

Pirate radio is everywhere in London, born in the 60’s from rusting anti-aircraft towers in the mouth of the Thames. Today’s broadcasts are hidden in plain sight, transmitting from secret tower block studios via homemade rooftop antennas. We put our boots on and went exploring.

Man FM 003 – Schlachthofbronx

Man FM is the Man Recordings podcast radio that gives you access to exclusive first listens to all the new Man Recordings releases, Interviews with all our Artists, DJ mixes by special guests plus brand new tracks and classics that inspire us. Hosted by Tim Turbo.

We got a slight change of plan from the advertised program for today’s third issue of Man FM. Isa GT will unfortunately be in the next issue, representin’ her new release on Man Rec, but I found a more than just suitable alternative: Bene of the infamous Schlachthofbronx tells us what’s happening at the Munich bassy site of life and answers some questions that never came up before in a Schlachthofbronx interview. He also gave me a handfull of brandnew, not even got a name yet, exclusive tunes we will listen to. And as always I got my pockets brimfull with new Ghetto bass beats and tunes that inspire us! See the comments for the tracklist.

Enjoy the show!

R.I.P. HEAT BERLIN

After only five parties at Berlin´s WMF club we have to say goodbye to HEAT, the Man Recordings club night which was started in December 2009. First, it´s because WMF club was surprisingly closed last Wednesday due to troubles with their landlords, so there´s no longer any home for us. Second, we decide to stop HEAT as it wasnt much fun to invite DJs like Beware, Wildlife!, João Brasil, Douster and Isa GT, Sinden, Schlachthofbronx, DJ Manaia, Drop The Lime and Ku Bo to HEAT and play in front of a half full club, eventually losing money almost at every party . The little success with HEAT showed that “Tropical” is more than a niche sound in Berlin club land: It´s practically non existent and doesnt seem to have any local following. When Radioclit played with The Very Best in Berlin in November 2009, 70 people attended. Before Major Lazer even a dude like Diplo pulled only 300 people on a Thursday at Berlin Tape club – all this in a city which is considered Europe´s capital of hip. The sad truth: Berlin continous to be ruled by Techno and House music, and it´s drug infused lifestyle still tirelessly promoted in books and media reports as the ultimate in club culture. The only alternative to the boring all night 4/4 hammering in Berlin clubs is Disco, which is not what you would call 21st century music. Berlin, your clubs were once inhabited by people that were looking for the new and exciting, now your party people have become lazy and utterly nostalgic. Thank god there´s other cities across Europe, that understand that the HEAT is on.
