Unimaginable today, New York in the mid 1970s was a decaying city, with inner city quarters that looked like slums, a high rate of unemployment and crime, and a highly corrupt city government. However, culture blossomed and in the Bronx and both downtown and midtown Manhattan emerged three music styles which shaped the musical landscape for more than three decades, and are still dominant forces today: Out of 1970s New York came punkrock, disco and rap, watch this amazing BBC documentary how it all came together.
